READER RECOMMENDATIONS

  • Paraguayan food tends to be meat-based, however a vegan reader found plenty of choice while staying in Asuncion. These are her top tips:

    ALMA ZEN

My favourite vegan restaurant. About 5 options to choose from each day with the specials changing daily

    Mon-Fri 11am to 3pm

Cerro Cora 1736 Casi, Asu 1836

    LA VIDA VERDE

Vegetarian restaurant with very pleasant dining area and and all Asian Buffet (Chinese and Japaneses food mainly)

    11.30am to 3pm

    Austria Asu

    WABI SABI

Vegetarian Chinese/Japanese off the menu. A bit expensive but nice.

    Mon-Sat 11am to 2.30 and 6pm to 23.30

    Rca Francesca 266, Asu

    BAR LA ESQUINA

Very reasonably priced buffet with both meat & veg options/salads/potatoes/rice/pasta dishes. They weigh the plates as with most of the buffets I went to. My plate cost about Gs20,000 + home made lemonade for about Gs10,000

Open daily except Sundays and Thursdays from 8am to 4pm

Gral DIaz, Corner of 14 de Mayo,
